AI receptionist · the Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast tradies: bottled gas, a city being built at Aura, and a phone nobody answers.

There’s no mains gas network up here, the coast is adding tens of thousands of homes at Aura and Palmview, and three quarters of the housing is detached. Receptly answers every call you can’t, knows the coast and the Queensland rules, and books it in.

The the Sunshine Coast problem

A coast in three parts, and growth arriving faster than anyone can answer

The Sunshine Coast is Caloundra to Noosa with the hinterland behind it, and the drive between the ends of it eats a morning. Add the new ground: the council’s own figures put Aura at Caloundra South at around 2,360 hectares and up to fifty thousand residents in twenty thousand homes. That is a city being built inside your service area, and every stage of it rings looking for trades.

Unlike the Gold Coast, this is a detached-house market: 73 percent separate houses at the last Census. That means homeowners, not building managers, ringing after hours about hot water, air con and roofs, with no one else to escalate to. They ring three numbers and go with whoever answers.

No mains gasThere is no reticulated gas distributor on the Sunshine Coast. It’s LPG, and the emergency contact is the supplier, not a network. The receptionist gets that right.
20,000 homesThe council’s figure for Aura at Caloundra South: up to fifty thousand residents across roughly 2,360 hectares. Estate work arrives in blocks and so do the calls.
73% houses2021 Census separate-house share, against 72.3% nationally and only 56.8% on the Gold Coast. Your callers are owners, and they ring after hours.

Local knowledge

It knows the Sunshine Coast

It’s set up for the Sunshine Coast before it takes a call. Not a generic script with the city name dropped in: the suburbs, the 07 numbers, the way work is spread, and the things a caller from the Sunshine Coast will ask.

  • Which end of the coast It asks the suburb and works out the run: the south (Caloundra, Currimundi, Aroona, Baringa, Aura, Pelican Waters, Beerwah, Landsborough), the centre (Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Buddina, Kawana Waters, Buderim, Sippy Downs, Palmview), the north (Coolum, Peregian, Marcoola, Noosaville, Noosa Heads, Tewantin) and the hinterland (Nambour, Palmwoods, Woombye, Maleny, Montville, Yandina). You set how far you’ll drive and it stops booking past it.
  • Gas here means bottles There’s no reticulated natural gas network on the Sunshine Coast, so a gas job here is LPG: bottles, changeover valves, and estate-reticulated LPG in some newer developments. If a caller reports a gas smell the receptionist tells them to get everyone outside and ring 000, then the supplier whose name is on the bottle. It never reads out a mains gas number, because there isn’t one.
  • Estate and builder calls Aura, Baringa, Palmview and Harmony ring differently to an established street in Buderim. It asks whether the caller is a homeowner, a builder or a site supervisor, captures the lot and stage, and routes builder calls wherever you want them so they don’t sit behind a domestic hot water job.
  • Who to ring when it’s not your job No water in the street or a sewer problem is Unitywater on 1300 086 489, twenty-four hours. The power outage line is Energex on 13 62 62, and anything dangerous like a fallen powerline is Energex on 13 19 62 or 000. Storm and flood help is the SES on 132 500. It sends them there first and keeps their details for you.

Queensland rules

The Queensland rules it respects

Licences

Builders and plumbers are licensed by the QBCC and electrical contractors by the Electrical Safety Office, which is a different body and a common mix-up. Queensland callers check licence numbers. The receptionist reads out whichever is yours when they ask, never claims one you don’t hold, and never promises a certificate it can’t issue.

Recording calls

Queensland’s Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 lets a party to a conversation record it. We don’t lean on that. Every call opens with a short announcement that it’s an automated receptionist and the call is recorded. Details in our call recording disclosure.

Quoting

It doesn’t quote. New-estate work and hinterland access are two places a phone price goes wrong fast. It captures what you need and tells the caller you’ll confirm.

  2. Your number stays the sameKeep the number on the van. Calls you don’t pick up in a few rings divert to the receptionist.
  3. Live within the weekWe listen to the first month of calls and tune it. Anything it can’t handle, it takes a message and texts you.
