Call recording

What you hear when you ring

Every call answered by Receptly opens the same way.

“[Business name], this is the virtual receptionist. This call may be recorded so we get your job details right. How can I help?”

No call is recorded without that line being said first. If you ask whether you are speaking to a person, you will be told plainly that you are not.

Why we record

Addresses get said fast. Quotes get remembered differently by the two people who were on the call. A recording settles both. It also means the business you rang can check that whoever picked up the phone did a decent job of it.

How long we keep it

Recordings are deleted automatically after six months.

Six months is long enough to sort out a disagreement about a job or an invoice, and short enough that we are not holding your voice for no reason.

A written transcript of the call is also created. Transcripts are kept while the business you rang is a Receptly client, and deleted within thirty days of that business leaving.

If you want a copy, or want it gone

Ring the business you called and ask. They pass the request to us and we action it, usually within a few working days. You can ask for a copy of your own call, or ask for the recording and transcript to be deleted sooner. No reason needed.

Where it is stored

Recordings and transcripts are held on servers outside Australia. What that means for your information is set out on our privacy page.
