AI receptionist · Hobart

Hobart tradies: one bridge, two shores, and a phone that rings from both.

The Derwent splits the city and the Tasman Bridge is how you cross it. A morning in Kingston and an afternoon in Lindisfarne is a real decision, not a detail. Receptly answers every call you can’t, knows both shores and the Tasmanian rules, and books it in.

The Hobart problem

The river is in the middle of your day, and the phone doesn’t care

Hobart is two cities with a bridge between them. Western shore work in Glenorchy, Moonah, Sandy Bay and out to Kingston; eastern shore work in Bellerive, Howrah, Lindisfarne and out to Sorell. Crossing costs you real time, and a job accepted on the wrong side at the wrong hour wrecks the afternoon. You need to know where a call is coming from before you say yes, and voicemail never asks.

Then there’s the housing. Battery Point and West Hobart are full of stock older than most of the mainland’s capitals, and the winter trade here isn’t burst mains, it’s heating: heat pumps, wood heaters, flues and insulation. Those calls come in a rush the first genuinely cold week and don’t stop until spring.

One bridgeThe Tasman Bridge is the crossing. Which shore the job is on is the first question, not the last.
Not a frost cityHobart averages barely one day a year at or below zero. Its winter work is heating and flues, not frozen pipes. The receptionist asks the right questions for here.
Wood heatThe Tasmanian EPA runs a dedicated wood heater program because of winter smoke. Flue and heater work is a real season in this city.

Local knowledge

It knows Hobart

It’s set up for Hobart before it takes a call. Not a generic script with the city name dropped in: the suburbs, the 03 numbers, the way work is spread, and the things a caller from Hobart will ask.

  • Which shore It asks the suburb first and works out the side: western shore (Hobart, North Hobart, West Hobart, Battery Point, Sandy Bay, New Town, Moonah, Glenorchy, Claremont, Berriedale) and south to Kingston, Blackmans Bay and Margate; eastern shore (Bellerive, Howrah, Rosny, Lindisfarne, Warrane, Risdon Vale, Cambridge, Seven Mile Beach) and out to Sorell and Midway Point. Up the valley there’s New Norfolk and Bridgewater. You tell it which side you work and whether you cross.
  • Old stock, and what that means Battery Point, West Hobart and North Hobart carry housing older than most of the mainland. It asks the age of the place and whether the work is in an original part of it, because that changes the job, the access and sometimes the permit. It doesn’t give heritage advice, it just makes sure you know before you quote.
  • Heating season, done properly The Hobart winter call is a heat pump that’s stopped, a wood heater or flue that needs work, or a house that can’t hold heat. It asks which, whether there’s any heating at all in the house right now, and whether anyone in the house is elderly or unwell, because that’s what decides today from Thursday.
  • Who to ring when it’s not your job No water in the street is TasWater on 13 6992, any hour. Wires down or the whole block dark is TasNetworks on 132 004. A gas smell is Tas Gas Networks on 1802 111, and yes, Hobart is on a reticulated natural gas network. Storm damage is the SES on 132 500. The receptionist points them there first and keeps their details for you.

Tasmania rules

The Tasmanian rules it respects

Licences

Electricians, plumbers, gas-fitters and builders in Tasmania are licensed through Consumer, Building and Occupational Services, part of the Department of Justice, and callers can look you up on the CBOS register in about ten seconds. The receptionist reads out your number when asked, never claims one you don’t hold, and never promises a certificate it can’t issue.

Recording calls

Tasmania’s Listening Devices Act 1991 makes it an offence to record a private conversation even when you’re a party to it, unless an exception applies. We don’t rely on the exceptions. Every call opens with a short announcement that it’s an automated receptionist and the call is recorded. Details in our call recording disclosure.

Quoting

It doesn’t quote. Old Hobart housing is where phone estimates go wrong, because nobody knows what’s behind the wall until it’s open. It captures what you need to quote properly and tells the caller you’ll confirm.

Your trade

Set up for your trade, in Hobart

Every Hobart setup starts from a trade script we’ve already built, then gets your suburbs, your hours and your rules on top. See how it works for plumbers, electricians, air conditioning, roofing, painters, landscaping, pest control, locksmiths, builders.

How it works

One call. We do the rest.

  1. One call with usWe’re in Sydney; setup is a phone call wherever you are. We learn how you run: the jobs you take, the suburbs you cover, what’s urgent, what gets quoted.
  2. Your number stays the sameKeep the number on the van. Calls you don’t pick up in a few rings divert to the receptionist.
  3. Live within the weekWe listen to the first month of calls and tune it. Anything it can’t handle, it takes a message and texts you.
