The Brisbane problem
Storm season is your busiest month and your worst month for the phone
Brisbane’s year is built around November to March. A storm cell comes through in the afternoon and by six o’clock you’ve got a month of work and a hundred missed calls. The people ringing have water in the house right now, and they’re ringing every roofer and sparky on the first page of Google until one picks up. On the roof with a tarp, you’re not that one.
The rest of the year it’s the spread. Queenslanders on stumps in Paddington, new estates in Ripley and Yarrabilba, units in the Valley, industrial in Eagle Farm, and the Gateway or the M1 between all of them. Answering on hands-free at 100 doesn’t get an address written down.
Local knowledge
It knows Brisbane
It’s set up for Brisbane before it takes a call. Not a generic script with the city name dropped in: the suburbs, the 07 numbers, the way work is spread, and the things a caller from Brisbane will ask.
- Where the job is It asks the suburb and works out the side: north (Chermside, Aspley, Redcliffe, North Lakes), south (Sunnybank, Logan, Springwood), east (Carindale, Wynnum, Capalaba, the Redlands), west (Indooroopilly, Kenmore, Ipswich, Springfield), inner (the Valley, West End, Paddington). You tell it where you work. Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are their own service areas; it won’t book you two hours down the M1 unless you say so.
- Queenslanders, stumps and storm damage It asks whether it’s a high-set Queenslander, a slab home, a unit or a shed, and after a storm it asks the questions insurers ask: which room, how much water, is the power off, has anyone been on the roof. Nobody gets told to get on a wet roof.
- Insurance work It captures the claim number, the insurer and whether make-safe is approved, so you’re not chasing that after you’ve done the tarp.
- Who to ring when it’s the network No water in the street is Urban Utilities on 13 23 64. Power is two different numbers and Energex means them differently: a fallen powerline, a shock or anything immediately dangerous is the emergency line on 13 19 62, or 000 if someone is hurt; the whole block simply dark is the outage line on 13 62 62. The receptionist gives the caller the right one instead of the one it half-remembers. A gas smell is 000 first, then Australian Gas Networks on 1800 427 532. Storm and flood help is the SES on 132 500. It tells the caller who to ring first, and still takes their details for you.
Queensland rules
The Queensland rules it respects
Licences
Builders and plumbers are licensed by the QBCC, electricians by the Electrical Safety Office. Queensland callers check licence numbers more than anywhere else in the country, and the receptionist reads yours out when asked. It never claims a licence you don’t hold and never promises a certificate it can’t issue.
Recording calls
Queensland’s Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 lets a party to a conversation record it. We don’t lean on that. Every call opens with a short announcement that it’s an automated receptionist and the call is recorded, same as in every state. Details in our call recording disclosure.
Quoting
It doesn’t quote. QBCC contract rules apply above certain values and a receptionist guessing a price is how disputes start. It captures what you need to quote properly and tells the caller you’ll confirm.
Your trade
Set up for your trade, in Brisbane
Every Brisbane setup starts from a trade script we’ve already built, then gets your suburbs, your hours and your rules on top. See how it works for plumbers, electricians, air conditioning, roofing, painters, landscaping, pest control, locksmiths, builders.
How it works
One call. We do the rest.
- One call with usWe’re in Sydney; setup is a phone call wherever you are. We learn how you run: the jobs you take, the suburbs you cover, what’s urgent, what gets quoted.
- Your number stays the sameKeep the number on the van. Calls you don’t pick up in a few rings divert to the receptionist.
- Live within the weekWe listen to the first month of calls and tune it. Anything it can’t handle, it takes a message and texts you.
