The pest controller’s problem

Every pest call feels like an emergency to the person making it

A rat in the kitchen, a wasp nest by the door, termite mud on a skirting board. To you it’s Thursday. To the caller it’s the only thing in their life right now, and they’ll ring every pest company on the first page until someone picks up. Whoever answers gets the job, and usually the annual treatment after it.

Meanwhile you’re in a roof void with a duster, or under a house with a termite probe, and the phone’s in the van. You can’t answer, and the missed calls don’t leave messages.

$250+A typical general pest treatment. A termite treatment is thousands, and it comes with an annual inspection for years.
SpringThe season turns and the phone doesn’t stop. Ask your call log for October.
Next nameSomeone with a wasp nest above the back door rings until a human, or a receptionist, answers.

What it asks a pest control caller

It sorts the termites from the ants

The receptionist is set up for pest control before it takes a call. It knows a termite inspection from a spider spray, and it asks what you’d ask:

  • What have they got? Termites, ants, cockroaches, spiders, rodents, wasps or bees, bed bugs, birds, possums, or a pre-purchase inspection. Bees get handled differently to wasps, and it knows that.
  • Where and how bad? Inside or outside, one room or everywhere, and how long it’s been going on. Termite callers get asked if they’ve disturbed the area, and told not to.
  • What’s the property? House, unit, commercial, or a rental. Pets, kids, and anyone with asthma or chemical sensitivity get noted for your treatment plan.
  • How urgent? Today, this week, or an annual due. Wasps, bees near an allergy, and active termites go to your phone.
  • Who’s paying? Owner, tenant, agent, strata, or a pre-purchase buyer. Agent jobs get the work order captured.

It lands on your phone as a text when you’re out of the roof. Treatments go into your calendar by suburb, so your day makes sense.

Bookings

Straight into your job software or calendar

Tell it your working hours, your service area and how long a standard job takes, and it books straight into ServiceM8, simPRO, Fergus, AroFlo or Google Calendar (Tradify on request). The job card has the address, the details, the access notes and the caller’s number. No re-typing from a voicemail.

If you’d rather approve every booking first, it holds the slot and texts you. You reply Y and the customer gets a confirmation.

How it works

You don’t set anything up. We do.

  1. One call with usWe learn how you run: the jobs you take, the areas you cover, what’s urgent, what gets quoted, who gets called back first.
  2. Your number stays the sameKeep the number on the van. Calls you don’t pick up in a few rings divert to the receptionist. Nobody notices a change, except that someone answers.
  3. Live within the weekWe listen to the first month of calls and tune it. Anything it can’t handle, it takes a message and texts you.

Questions pest controllers ask us

Straight answers

Can it book a run?

Yes. Tell it which suburbs you’re in on which days and it books treatments into the right day rather than sending you across the city. Or it holds the slot and texts you.

Can it handle termite enquiries properly?

It captures where they’ve seen activity, whether it’s been disturbed, the construction type if they know it, and whether it’s a pre-purchase inspection with a deadline. It tells them not to spray anything themselves before you’ve seen it.

Can it quote?

It can give your standard price for a general treatment if you want it to, and for anything else it captures the details and tells the caller you’ll confirm. Termite work is always quoted on inspection.

What about someone with an allergy and a wasp nest?

If a caller mentions an allergy, or bees or wasps near children, it tells them to keep everyone inside and away from the area, to ring 000 if anyone’s been stung and is reacting, and then texts you straight away. That script is fixed.
